Started a new game and signed a 2-yr. contact with Edinburgh. Tried to sim two year to see what would happen at the end of the season ans the end of my contract. Got to June 2014, and checked the team personnel screen. There, it said my contract ended in 2015. Thought to myself, "must have been a 3 year and I wasn't paying close enough attention."

Sim ahead into the next season and check again. Now, I'm signed through 2016!

Are the contract just broken (auto-renews without warning) or does the game interpret the contract as if it is beginning each season?
