Mr Spritze: My understanding - which may be completely wrong - is that for non-major-league seasons there are two types of neutered stats in the Spritze HS database: 1) those based upon real stats, and 2) those that are intelligently made up. Based upon real stats would be those where the real stats for a particular season are reduced so that, for example, a PCL guy who hit .325 with 25 homers would not be rated as a .325/25 guy in the majors. Intelligently made up are those where actual stats for subsequent years are used (to some degree) as the basis for previous (minor-league) seasons in order to come up with realistic minor-league-level stats & ratings.
Is the above true? Or in the ballpark?
If so, then which stats - based on real or intelligently made up - are used for which portions of the following examples?
- Career minor-leaguer
- Player who plays several years in each of PCL (or other minor league) and Majors
- Player who plays a few years in minors and then has a significant major-league career
- Player who plays most of his career in the minors but whose career includes a a short major-league career (perhaps a few full seasons, or perhaps just a cup of coffee)
Would the answers to the above be any different for Negro-league portions of a career instead of minor-league time?
I realize that some of these are in-progress based upon "1871-1902 have been updated" and "1941-1974 are done already," but I'm also not quite clear exactly to whom - and what portion of their careers - this applies.
Hope these questions make sense. Thanks in advance.
