Except that does nothing for the folks who want to mimic the MLB environment as much as possible. Fictionalizing something actively works against users with such preferences.

Ideally, users would have the option to use MLB's competitive balance lottery and draft system or a more fictionalized system. In regards to the latter, perhaps something like the competitive balance draft suggested by the Blue Ribbon Panel back in 2000. (This proposal had the bottom eight clubs each drafting a player from the eight clubs which had made the post-season during the season. Each playoff club would lose a single player not on its 40-man roster while each of the bottom eight clubs would gain one player. The draft would be held just before the Rule 5 draft.)
