Deacon Phillippe (a distant relative of actor Ryan Phillippe, who named his first son after him) absolutely throttled the 1941 Dodgers, going 3-0 with a 0.32 ERA, including a Game 1 1-0 shutout and a Game 6 1-0 shutout in ten innings to bookend a 4-2 series win for the 1902 Pirates in fine style. Jimmy Burke had a dramatic 2 out pinch hit walkoff RBI double in the bottom of the tenth inning of Game 6, but that got lost in Phillippe's sheer dominance. His final line: 28.0 IP, 14 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K was completely deserving of series MVP honours. The Dodgers outerred the Pirates 21-12 (including 9 in an ugly Game 5 8-1 loss) in the series and were outscored 22-16.
