I think the lineups don't really start being reliable until 1913 or 14. I'm guessing. It used to be 1920 on, but I think they made it earlier a few versions ago.
I'm simming from 1901 on right now with transactions and lineups on. The real lineups don't seem to be actually working as of 1908. When you do start seeing real lineups, the AI will not put a player who didn't start in until the 7th inning of a game. It's a little annoying with this type of gameplay. You're playing a game, and you think that Jimmie Foxx is out due to injury but the system inserts him in once you get to the 7th inning. So, nobody is truly ever injured.
I use the fatigue factor set on low. It only impacts catchers occasionally, though. Like maybe once or twice a year. They had days off regularly if you use the real schedules. You only run into long blocks of consecutive games played a couple times a year. I only do it if I'm seeing what happens if you play someone everyday such as Ruth or Dimaggio. They both missed a good bit of time in their careers.
Gherig is always an Iron Man. So, you can't run him into the ground.
I was hoping they could get real transactions to work with real minors to add some variety to the historical replay style of gameplay, but it doesn't quite work that way, yet.
