Boom! Before even the first out of the game was made, Burroughs had himself a 3-run homer. And one out later, the Tigers were already into their bullpen as Cain complained of arm pain and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Earl Stephenson.

Freehan answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.

After three: Texas 3 Detroit 1.

In the top of the fourth, the Rangers had runners at first and second and two out when Fred Holdsworth made his first appearance of the season. Nelson singled to load the bases but Maddox lined out to right to retire the side.

In the bottom of the fifth, three walks loaded the bases for the Tigers with one out. Driessen drew walk number four of the innning to bring home a run. Mason booted a ball and the score was tied. A popout and strikeout ended the innning.

Holdsworth struck out the side in the top of the sixth.

Cash led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run and the Tigers had the lead. Kaline added a 2-run shot.

After six: Detroit 6 Texas 3.

The Rangers had runners at first and second with one out and Joe Niekro replaced Holdsworth on the mound for the Tigers and kept the Rangers from scoring.

Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the seventh.

After a horrible April, Lindblad has gotten his ERA to drop below 7.0.

In the top of the ninth, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out as a Burroughs single gave the Rangers 10 hits for the game. John Hiller replaced Niekro on the mound. And the Rangers scored nothing.

Final score: Detroit 6 Texas 3.
