The Rangers first double header of the season was not supposed to take place until Monday, May 14. But, because of yesterday's rainout, the Rangers and Athletics will battle in a Friday day-night double header.

Campaneris put the Athletics on the board in the top of the third with an RBI double. Bando added an RBI single. 
 
After three: Oakland 2 Texas 0. 
 
The Rangers produced their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a Burroughs groundout RBI.  
 
After six: Oakland 2 Texas 1. 
 
In the top of the seventh, the Athletics had a runner on first and one out when the Rangers went to the bullpen. Mike Garman replaced Kobel.  
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. But failed to tie the game. 
 
In the top of the eighth, Garman struck out Tenace for his 10th K of the season. But the Athletics got a run in on the Rangers second error of the innning and third error of the game. Epstein then added a 2-run single to go over 20 RBI on the season.  
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Burroughs got his 20th RBI of the season with a run-scoring double. But he would be thrown out at home trying to score from second on a Harrah single to left. 
 
The three unearned runs in the eighth ended up being the difference. 
 
Final score: Oakland 5 Texas 2.

In the top of the seventh, the Athletics showed that they don't need home runs to score as Bando got an RBI single. It was Oakland's 10th hit of the game. The next batter, Epstein, hit his second home run of the game, a 3-run shot that made it 9-0. With one out in the innning, Paul Lindblad replaced Broberg.  
 
McLain went the distance as the Athletics out hit the Rangers 14-3.
