The 1973 Texas Rangers are on pace to have the worst winning percentage of any team in the 20th Century. They return to Texas for a 12 game home stand against the AL East. First up, three games against the Cleveland Indians. The Indians have some offensive woes of their own. Only two teams have worse batting average. Only tge Rangers have a worse OBP. The Indians have the worst bullpen ERA in the American League. The Rangers are the only team to allow more runs than Cleveland. Only two teams have a worse starters ERA than the Indians. Howard has fallen off this year, hitting just .120 on the season, but he put the Rangers on the board with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first to finally get his 10th RBI of the season.
Biittner added to the lead with a 2-run double in the bottom of the second.
The bottom of the third began with back-to-back errors by the Indians. Mason cashed in with an RBI single. Suarez then walked to load the bases with nobody out. Dent grounded into the 4-6-3 so could not be credited with an RBI when Maddox scored.

Chambliss put the Indians on the board in the top of the fourth with a 2-run double. Chambliss later scored on a Moses groundout.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Rangers had a runner on first and one out and the Indians made a pitching change and brought in Dick Baney. Dent doubled but Mason was thrown out at home trying to score from first to end the inning.

Hand began the top of the seventh by striking out Davis for his 20th K of the season.
