In the top of the eighth, McBride delivered an RBI double. Mike Garman replaced Bosman with a runner on second and one out. Oates then tied the game with an RBI single, the Angels 10th hit of the game. Pinch hitter Orlando Cepeda then gave the Angels the lead with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, a one out single but Burroughs led to a California pitching change as Tom Murphy took the mound for the Angels. Murphy then struck out Grieve for his 10th K of the season.
In the top of the ninth, McBride got his fifth hit of the game to tie a team record.
The Rangers got the tying run to second in the bottom of the ninth but Nelson grounded to first to end the game.
