Game one of the finals sees all the scoring take place in the first period.
Kenny Wharram and
Ron Ellis gave the
Bruins a 2-0 lead.
Earl Ingarfield gets his first for
Detroit on the power play, but that was it.
Martin and
Plante shut the door the rest of the way. 2-1
Boston wins the opener.
Detroit responds in the 2nd game, giving themselves a 2-0 lead until
Boston finally breaks the shut out half way through the third.
Boston however had more left in them, and tie it with 3 minutes remaining on a
Tommy Williams goal. We need overtime. 11 minutes in,
Bruce MacGregor is the hero, getting his first, and the
Bruins continue to look good in their upset bid. 3-2

Ron Ellis scores early in game three, his 4th, and it’s 1-0
Bruins.
Gordie Howe ties it with his first goal of the finals, and
Detroit gets the winner late, off the stick of
Ron Stewart. The
Wings avoids the disaster with a slim 2-1 win.
Boston jumps out infront again with a 2 goal first period.
Detroit responds and ties it in the 2nd. The two teams then exchanged goals in the third before
Fred Stanfield scored the winner at the 18:09 mark, tying the series for
Detroit. 4-3 is the final.

Howe has just one goal in the first four games!
Game five is just as tight as the first four games have been.
Boston and
Detroit exchange goals in the first period, then again in the 2nd period. Again, this time at the 18:12 mark,
Charlie Burns of
Detroit scores the late winner! 3-2
Red Wings.
Detroit turns the tables in game 6 smelling victory. They go up 2-0 after a period, but
Boston responds with two early 2nd period goals to tie it. The
Wings keep coming, and
Gordie Howe makes it 3-2 late in the period. Down 5-3,
Boston gets goals from
Ron Ellis and
Dale Rolfe late in the third to avoid elimination and force another period to stay alive. In overtime,
Paul Henderson finds the back of the net, which forces a game 7! 6-5
Boston!

Game 7
Detroit controlled the early play, but at the half way mark of the first,
Boston took over, and outshot the
Wings 9-2 the remainder of the period. Both goalies were on their game though, and there is no score through one. 5 minutes into the 2nd,
Norm Ullman out battles
Pierre Pilote in the corner, he wins the puck, comes out in front, and finds a way to stuff the puck past
Seth Martin. 1-0
Boston.
Ullman’s goal is the only marker in the 2nd, and the
Bruins hold the slight lead heading into the third.

Defense is dominating. Forwards can’t do much, and shots are very limited, but with 7 minutes remaining,
Gordie Howe breaks through, and gets a shot through
Jacques Plante.
Howe gets his 8th, and it’s tied at 1.
Gordie Howe gets a breakaway 2 minutes later, and is denied by
Plante. The puck is quickly relayed down the ice by
Boston, and
Ron Ellis finds himself alone in front of
Seth Martin.
Ellis scores!! 2-1
Boston.
Detroit can’t find another goal.
Ellis wins it! 2-1
Bruins. They win the Stanley Cup!!
