Los Angeles Dodgers SP Don Sutton allowed 6 hits and struck out 9 over 7 innings in a 6-3 loss to the Yankees. The 24 year old was 18-11 with a 2.17 ERA in 41 starts this year. Sutton was an 1969 NL All Star.

Sutton left the game at the end of the 7th leading 3-2 but the 8th and 9th unraveled for the Dodgers. PH Frank Fernandez hits an 0-out 2 run HR in the top of the 8th off of CL Jim Brewer to put the Yankees up 4-3. The Yankees added 2 more with a RBI double by Bobby Cox and then a RBI single by Bobby Murcer in the 9th.

Yankees C Thurmon Munson hit a solo HR in the 6th for his 1st of the playoffs, Fernandez's HR was his 1st of the playoffs as well.

The Yankees lead the Series 1-0.

New York Yankees 1B Joe Pepitone was 4 for 5 with a HR and 7 RBIs in a 9-6 win in 10 innings over the Dodgers. The 29 year old hit .278 with 30 HRs and 84 RBIs in 150 games this year. Pepitone is a 2-time Gold Glover winner and a 4-time All Star.

The Dodgers have a 6-4 lead going into the 9th, but for the second straight game blew the lead. With former Yankee Pete Mikkelsen on the mound for LA, Joe Pepitone hits a 2 run HR in the inning to sent the game to extras. In the 9th, Jerry Kenney hits an RBI single with 1 out to break the tie. Now with 2 out, Pepitone hits a 2 run single into CF to add to the lead. The Dodgers had a couple base runners in the bottom half of the 10th, but Willie Davis 1st pitch swinging hits a fly ball to RF to end he threat and the game.

Yankees LF Ron White scored 3 times as he had 3 walks and no hits. 3B Joe Kenney was 3 for 6, while Pepitone's HR was his 3rd of the post season. Dodgers CF Willie Davis did hit a HR in the 5th, his 1st of the playoffs. It was CL Jim Brewers 2nd blown save of the playoffs.

The Yankees lead the Series 2-0.

New York Yankees CF Ron Woods was 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBIs in a 6-5 win over the Dodgers. The 26 year old hit .256 with 5 HRs and 24 RBIs in 103 games for the Tigers (34) and Yankees (69) this season.

With the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th, Woods hits a solo HR off of Claude Osteen to RF. For Woods, it was his 1st HR and 3rd RBI of the playoffs.

Dodgers CF Willie Davis was 3 for 4 in the game, he hit his 1st triple of he playoffs in the 3rd. With the loss, Osteen is now 0-2 in the playoffs and a 6.60 ERA. Yankees 1B Joe Pepitone added 3 more RBIs and is hitting .300 with 4 HRs and 13 RBIs after adding a 2 run shot in the 3rd. Yankee SP Fritz Peterson is now 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in the playoffs.

The Yankees lead the Series 3-0.

New York Yankees SP Mike Kekich allowed 10 hits and struck out 8 in a complete game 3-2 win over the Dodgers in 12 innings clinching the World Series in a Sweep. The 24 year old was 2-5 with a 3.79 ERA in 10 starts this year.

The Dodgers tied the game 2-2 in the top of the 9th courtesy of Manny Mota's RBI single that scored Bill Sudakis. With 2 out in the bottom of the 12th and runners at 1st and 3rd, Thurmon Munson earned a 8 pitch walk bringing up Horace Clarke to the plate. Clarke delivers the walk off RBI single up the middle for the World Series win.

Yankees 1B Joe Pepitone was named the World Series MVP, he finished the post season hitting .265 with 4 HRs and 14 RBIs. Dodgers 1B Wes Parker was 3 for 6 in the game.

The Yankees win the World Series 4-0.
