08/27/1972 - Kingman Hits 2 Home Runs in Giants Win
A 6-RBI performance from Dave Kingman, who is tied for 10th in the NL in extra base hits with 46, helped the San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs, 9-5. San Francisco is 5th in the NL West Division with a record of 59-72. Seems he has definitely broken out of his mid-August slump.
Kingman took the first pitch he saw in the game from RHP Bill Hands deep over the left field fence. He victimized the Cubs veteran again by depositing a full count pitch the other way over the right field fence in the 7th.
The Giants also got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Ed Goodson. For the game, Goodson was 1 for 1 with a home run. In the top of the seventh, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave San Francisco a 5-4 lead.
"Feels good to get the job done," Goodson said after the game.
