09/18/1972 - Giants Lose to Reds, 6-3
The Cincinnati Reds picked up a win at Riverfront Stadium, knocking off the San Francisco Giants, 6-3. Starting pitcher Don Gullett, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Gullett, now 13-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run. Pedro Borbon got the save, his 7th in 8 chances.
Tony Perez hit a 2-run triple off Jim Barr in the bottom of the first, which put the Reds in front, 2-0. Perez had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
LHP Don Gullett called the win the result of "Everyone being in sync. My only real mistake was hanging that slider to their rookie first baseman."
