07/27/1975 - Cubs Raise Rally Flag, Beat New York, 7-6
The Chicago Cubs had to overcome a big game from New York first baseman Dave Kingman to leave Wrigley Field with a 7-6 victory. Kingman went 3-4 with a home run off LHP Geoff Zahn, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The winner was Chicago reliever Tom Dettore, now 3-2. The loser was Tom Hall. Chicago is now 47-58, while New York is 49-52.
Bill Madlock hit a run-scoring triple off Tom Hall in the bottom of the ninth, which put the Cubs in front, 7-6. Madlock had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cubs manager . "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
