The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-4, at Three Rivers Stadium. New York first baseman Dave Kingman earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 3-5 with a home run off RHP Doc Medich and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs. Skip Lockwood picked up the win, improving his season record to 7-11. He struck out 1 in 9 innings.
New York improves to 59-53 with the win. They lead their division by 3 games.
