04/17/1977 - Streaking Mets Win Another One
New York played host to Chicago at the friendly confines of Shea Stadium.
New York Mets starter Jon Matlack was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Chicago Cubs, 5-1. The Mets, now 8-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Dave Kingman chipped in for New York with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first off RHP Dennis Lamp. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Chicago skipper.
