06/24/1977 - Victory Pushes Braves Record to 41-28
Benefiting from Willie Montanez's productive game, the Atlanta Braves downed the San Diego Padres, 9-6. Montanez went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Braves. Andy Messersmith was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 6 runs on 9 hits, with 7 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Braves bumped their record to 41-28 with this latest triumph.
Montanez had a game-changing double in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 slider from John D'Acquisto, he banged a run-scoring double to center, giving the Braves a 6-5 lead. It was the 19th double of the year for Montanez.
"It feels good to get this one," Montanez told the Atlanta Today.
Kingman homered off RHP Andy Messersmith.
