07/30/1977 - Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Mets

Despite a great performance by San Diego shortstop Bill Almon, the New York Mets defeated the Padres by the score of 5-4 at Shea Stadium. Almon was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. New York improves to 59-46 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.

The Mets got a big at-bat from left fielder Steve Henderson. For the game, Henderson was 1 for 5. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 47th hit of the season gave New York a 5-4 lead.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Henderson. "I like it."
