06/10/1978 - Cuns Beat Padres 10-6
The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres, 10-6, at Wrigley Field. Chicago catcher Dave Rader was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Even with the win, the Cubs have a dismal 17-39 record.
Rader had a game-changing single in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-1 curveball from Mark Wiley, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Cubs a 6-5 lead. It was the 21st hit of the year for Rader.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Rader told the Chicago Gazette.
Dave Kingman went deep against LHP Randy Jones.
