06/12/1978 - Kingman Powers Cubs Past Cincinnati, 8-7
The Chicago Cubs relied on the hitting of first baseman Dave Kingman to stop the Cincinnati Reds, 8-7. For the game, Kingman went 3-5 with a home run off RHP Tom Hume, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. The win was Donnie Moore's in relief. His record improves to 1-4. Manny Sarmiento took the loss for Cincinnati. Even with the win, the Cubs have a dismal 18-40 record.
Kingman had a game-changing double in the top of the 11th. On a first pitch fastball from Pedro Borbon, he banged a bases-clearing double to left, giving the Cubs a 8-5 lead. It was the 7th double of the year for Kingman.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Kingman said.
