The Chicago Cubs topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-4, at Wrigley Field. Chicago shortstop Ivan de Jesus earned player of the game honors. He banged out 1 single and 1 double, while driving in 2 runs. With the victory, the Cubs record now stands at 43-61.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from left fielder Bill Buckner. For the game, Buckner was 1 for 5 with a home run. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Chicago a 3-2 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," de Jesus told the Chicago Gazette.
Kingman homered off RHP Mark Littell.
