05/05/1979 - Cubs Shellac Braves, 16-0
A 3-RBI performance from first baseman Dave Kingman, who is a two-time All-Star, led the Chicago Cubs to a 16-0 win over the Atlanta Braves. The Braves fall to 9-17 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1979 season.
Early in the game, Kingman had a 2-run home run for Chicago off RHP Phil Niekro. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Cubs on top, 2-0. He later hit his second longball of the game off RHP Rick Mahler.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Kingman.
