Today is the second game in the series in Boston between the Cubs and the Beaneaters. The Cubs have leapfrogged the Giants in the standings and now lead the National League by a half game.

In the top of the first, the Cubs got on the board thanks to a Tenney throwing error.

In the bottom of the first, the Beaneaters loaded the bases with two out. Dolan then drew a free pass to tie the game. Strobel then doubled to bring in two but Dolan was thrown out at home trying to score from first to end the inning.

After three: Boston 3 Chicago 1.

In the top of the fourth, an RBI triple by Kling cut into the Beaneaters lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bates banged out an RBI triple of his own.

After six: Chicago 4 Boston 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Pfeffer struck out for the 20th time of the season.

In the top of the eighth, the Beaneaters committed their third error of the game. But a double play ended the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Beaneaters loaded the bases with one out. Strobel watched ball four to walk in another run. Needham grounded into the 6-2 and therewere two outs. Pfeffer then grounded to short to end the inning.

Down by three, the Cubs went down in order in the top of the ninth as Big Jeff Pfeffer picked up his fourth win of the season against the Cubs.

Final score: Boston 5 Chicago 2.
