Bob Wicker came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth for the Cubs.
Steinfeldt led off the top of the ninth with a single to extend his hit streak to 12 games. The Cubs would not get a runner in scoring position, however, as Schulte would ground to second to end the game.
Brown would get the loss despite the Giants getting just four hits.
