New York first baseman Dave Kingman had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Kingman was 2-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5, even as Pittsburgh beat the Mets, 11-7. Kingman was named the player of the game despite the loss. John Candelaria got credit for the win, improving to 7-4. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings. Pittsburgh now has a 3-game win streak.

Omar Moreno, who is tied for 4th in the NL in runs scored with 50, aided the Pittsburgh cause with a 2-run double in the bottom of the second. For the game, the center fielder went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2.

"We came out aggressive," said Pirates manager . "We came out swinging the bats."
