A 4-RBI performance from Dave Kingman, who is on pace for 107 RBI this season, helped the New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3. Neil Allen notched his 28th save in 34 chances. The Mets bumped their record to 89-67 with this latest triumph.
Early in the game, Kingman had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 41st home run of the season and put the Mets on top, 2-0.
Kingman told a New York Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
