09/30/1982 - Mets Get Win, Extend Streak to 4
t was a fun time at Shea Stadium, where the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets tangled.
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Dave Kingman, the New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs, 6-1. Kingman went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Mets. Ed Lynch, the winner, improved to 12-10. He held the Cubs to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 2.
Kingman had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the fourth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Mets went on to win.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Mets manager , "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
New York now has a 4-game win streak.
