The New York Mets finished things off in style today at Shea Stadium.
The Mets grabbed a win, 4-3, at Shea Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Los Angeles pitcher Sid Fernandez. Fernandez went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. New York is now 17-22.
The Mets got a big at-bat from right fielder Clint Hurdle. For the game, Hurdle was 2-5 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 29th hit of the season gave New York a 4-3 lead.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Hurdle said.
