Nelson led off the top of the ninth with a home run. Burroughs followed with his own home run. Kubiak added an RBI double. Frank Howard hit a pinch hit RBI single. With runners at the corners and one out, Bobby Bolin took the mound for the Red Sox. Two fly balls later, the game was over.
The Red Sox collected 13 hits in the victory.
