Clem Labine took the mound for the Mets in the bottom of the ninth. Mejias hit a solo shot 454 feet to left-center. With two out, pinch hitter Merritt Ranew tied the game with a two run double. Ranew, however, was thrown out trying to turn it into a triple and the game went into extra innings.

Bob Moorhead took the mound for the Mets in the bottom of the tenth. With the winning run at first and two out, Spangler grounded to the short stop to end the inning.
Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the twelfth.
In the bottom of the twelfth, with the winning run at third and two out, Amalfitano went down on strikes to end the inning.
Rain began to fall in the top of the thirteenth.
Ken MacKenzie took the mound for the Mets in the bottom of the thirteenth. With two out, the game was stopped for a 43 minute rain delay.
In the top of the fourteenth, the Mets loaded the bases with nobody out. Hickman singled to put the Mets up by one. Mantilla followed with his own RBI single. Chacon grounded into the 4-2 fielder's choice for the first out. Pinch hitter Don Zimmer hit a sacrifice fly to center. Bouchee followed with an RBI single. The Mets batted around the order in the inning.
Ray Daviault took the mound for the Mets in the bottom of the fourteenth. And he finished off the Colt .45s.
The Mets got 16 hits in the win.
