Standout Season For Mize, Wins NL Most Valuable Player Award:
The future looks extremely bright for Johnny Mize. At the age of 26, many players are still trying to find their way in NCAA.
Mize has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the National League Most Valuable Player Award.
"I didn't expect to hit .357 this year, that's for sure," the first baseman said.
The Illinois Fighting Illini star also put up a .458 on-base percentage this year, with 213 hits, 34 doubles, 5 triples, 83 home runs, 173 RBIs and 154 runs scored.
He received 100 first place votes out of a possible 146. Jimmy T Williams of the Georgia State Panthers finished second in voting with 39 first place votes, while Juan Soto of the USC Trojans finished third with 6 first place votes.
