The Yankees placed RF Paul O'Neill on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20.

The Seattle Mariners signed CF Ken Griffey Jr to a 7-year contract extension worth a total of $80,200,000.

In the bottom of the first, Irabu hit Fernandez on the foot with a pitch and Fernandez had to leave the game. He was replaced by Tomas Perez.

In the top of the second, Posada put the Yankees on the board with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Canseco led off with a 391 foot home run to tie the game. Later in the inning, Gonzalez put the Blue Jays in the lead with a two-out RBI double.

In the bottom of the fourth, Canseco sent his second solo home run of the game 390 feet with two out.

In the top of the fifth, Martinez hit a two-out RBI single to make it a one-run game.

After six: Toronto 3 New York 2.

In the top of the seventh, Dan Plesac took the mound for the Blue Jays.

In the bottom of the seventh, Green increased the Blue Jays lead with a 402 foot two-run longball. With bases empty and nobody out, Graeme Lloyd took the mound for the Yankees.

In the top of the eighth, Brosius got an RBI double to get the Yankees back in the game.

In the top of the ninth, Randy Myers took the mound for the Blue Jays. With a runner on first and two out, Bernie Williams flew to left to end the game.

The two teams combined for 21 hits in the contest.
