The Troy Trojans have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Bobby Mathews, this year's National League Cy Young Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.
Mathews compiled a 15-6 record in 32 starts, tallied 510 strikeouts in 213.1 innings and recorded a 1.60 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .110 batting average against him.
He received 120 first place votes out of a possible 154. Joe Lake of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane finished second in voting with 26 first place votes, while Sam Leever of the Minnesota Golden Gophers finished third with 2 first place votes.
