Here's a brief profile of the current owner of the Colorado Fourteeners, at least, before the start of the 1947 season. I don't know who owned the Fourteeners during the 1946 season, and I don't know if I can find out later, somehow, but in any case, hopefully this will help you get at least a bit more knowledgeable about him.
Matthew Payne was born on July 15, 1900, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the owner of a moderately-sized newspaper empire stretching from Pennsylvania to Colorado to Arkansas to Virginia. His newspaper empire's chief papers are in Philadelphia, Colorado Springs, Fayetteville, and Lynchburg. He has been married about 22 years, and has three children with his wife, the former Annabel Marie McConnell, and those children are Darrell, Moira, and Noah, who are currently 14, 11, and 7 years old, respectively.
He attended the University of Pennsylvania, and was graduated from there as a member of the Class of 1923. He inherited his first newspaper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at 30 from his paternal grandfather. With hard work and wise investments and shrewd business activities, he added several more papers to his empire before selling or merging them together as the need or desire for him to do so periodically arose, prior to buying The Gazette of Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1938.
He spends much of the year traveling, when possible, but also enjoys time with family and friends all over the United States when not traveling. That and often watching baseball games whenever he can.
He was a good baseball player in high school, but couldn't perform well against tougher competition often. His active playing career essentially ended in college.

I think at least the next couple of posts will be used to further introduce you to certain current members of the Fourteeners' organization, at least at the major league level, but we'll just have to see if that's ultimately the case, of course, folks.
