OK an update to this.

I can create a new game but it is just the screen that is blank we asking to start a new game. If I start clicking from the bottom upwards randomly I can find the box that says no to the challenge mode. This then goes to the correct screen to start a new game and I can see the things I need to see.

I suspect this might be an issue for my laptop not showing the screen and will play with my display settings to see if I can fix it. If anyone has any ideas on this let me know.
