I feel like the Live cards gave me a more accessible way to improve my team while waiting to accumulate packs/points to get the better historic cards. I've found they have quite a bit of lasting value, too -- I'm at the top of my bronze league and Live cards make up exactly half my lineup.
If you consider the mission rewards as an extension to the Live cards, the whole set works really well together in the game right now. I'm finding a lot of success in a lineup that only has only 3-4 cards outside of the Live Series and its rewards.
On the historic hundreds, I'm probably hitting about 1 per 500 packs opened, but I've been able to open almost double the packs I initially purchased through reselling duplicates, focusing on missions, getting drops. So in terms of what I paid for packs and what I have in my lineup, it was about 1:250 packs in the end.
