Tonight is the second game in the season-opening series in Houston between the Colt .45's and the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs won the second opener 5-1.

The Colt .45's signed team doctor Roger Banks to a 3-year, $10,200 per year contract.

In the bottom of the first, a two-out run-scoring double by Larker gave the Colt .45's their first lead in franchise history.

Farrell was perfect through three.

After three: Houston 1 Chicago 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the first ever home run in Colt .45's history was hit by the pitcher as Farrell extended the lead with a 415 foot three-run shot.

In the top of the fifth, Banks led off with a four-pitch walk to give the Cubs their first baserunner of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Colt .45's loaded the bases with nobody out. Amalfitano drew a four-pitch walk to bring home a run. Larker scored from third when Ranew grounded to first. An intentional walk reloaded the bases with one out. Aspromonte scored from third when Farrell grounded to first.

In the top of the sixth, a one-out double by Taylor gave the Cubs their first hit of the game. Williams put the Cubs on the board with a two-out RBI single. A walk followed to load the bases with two out before Banks popped up to short to retire the side.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tony Balsamo took the mound for the Cubs. Larker got an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

After six: Houston 8 Chicago 1.

In the top of the eighth, Taylor belted a 393 foot lead off home run. Williams added a 377 foot two-out solo home run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bob Anderson took the mound for the Cubs.

In the top of the ninth, Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s with a five-run lead to protect. The Cubs scored one on a Rodgers three-bagger. Hubbs followed with a single to score Rodgers. With a runner on first and one out, Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45s and got Taylor to ground into the game-ending 4-6-3 to give the Colt .45's their first win in franchise history.

The Colt .45's had 10 hits in the victory.

Final score: Houston 8 Chicago 5.
