In the top of the first, a run-scoring double by Buddin put the Colt .45's on the board. The Colt .45's went on to load the bases with two out. That led to a two-RBI single by Smith. Amalfitano then scored from third when Bouchee bobbled a Heist grounded. It was the Mets second error of the inning. The pitcher, Bruce, got in on the act with a run-scoring single to complete the five-run inning.

In the bottom of the first, a Mantilla single scored a run.

In the top of the third, Smith belted a two-run home run 387 feet.

After three: Houston 7 New York 1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Mets loaded the bases with two out. But Bouchee grounded to second to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, rain began to fall. With the bases empty and two out, play was stopped for a 56 minute rain delay.

After six: Houston 7 New York 1.

In the top of the seventh, Kevin MacKenzie took the mound for the Mets.

In the bottom of the seventh, following a lead off single, Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45's. The Mets went on to load the bases with one out. Mantilla popped up into the infield fly rule for the second out. Bouchee, however, came through with a two-run double to give the Mets signs of life.

In the top of the ninth, the Colt .45's loaded the bases with one out. Larker brought a run home with a sacrifice fly. Aspromonte singled to reload the bases with two out. A two-RBI single by Amalfitano put the game out of reach. With runners at first and second and two out, Lew Krausse Jr took the mound for the Mets.

In the bottom of the ninth, with the lead up to seven runs, Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45's for mopup duty.

The two teams combined for 22 hits in the contest.

Final score: Houston 10 New York 3.
