In the bottom of the first, Canseco put the Rangers on the board with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the second, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. A Lee single scored one. Greer scored from third when Ortiz grounded into the 6-4-3.

In the bottom of the third, Canseco led off with a 345 foot homer, his fifth home run of the year.

In the top of the eighth, the Orioles loaded the bases with two out. McLemore then cut the Rangers lead in half with a two-RBI single. With runners at first and second and two out, Cris Carpenter took the mound for the Rangers. Palmeiro made it a one-run game with an RBI single.
In the top of the ninth, Tom Henke took the mound for the Rangers with a one-run lead to protect and he retired the Orioles in order to record the save.
