Jordan Quinto doubled with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Mark Herman and give St. Louis a 4-3 win over Kansas City at Busch Stadium (2006).
Herman had led off the inning with a single off Monarchs relief pitcher David Rufillo.
After a strike out of Jackson Miller, Quinto lined a shot down the right-field line to score Herman.
Gerardo Bernal hit a three-run homer of River Walkers starting pitcher Josh McDonald in the top of the sixth inning, putting Kansas City up 3-0.
Bob Saavedra hit the first of his two home runs leading off the bottom of that inning, it came off Monarchs starter Travis Rinker, to put St. Louis on the board.
An inning later, Jackson Miller led off the inning with a homer.
Two batters later, Saavedra went deep again, both home runs came off Brandon Jones, to tie it.
McDonald pitched five shut-out innings before allowing the three runs in the sixth.
Overall, he allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out three and didn't issue a walk.
Ron Cox worked a scoreless seventh inning for St. Louis.
Brett McVey got the first two outs of the eighth.
Nick Ruffalo finished off the eighth and held KC scoreless in the ninth.
Ruffalo (2-2) earned the win.
