MBL news: Oct. 4 -- Columbus downs Dayton to win AL East championship
The Columbus Golden Bears defeated the Dayton Flyers 6-5 to clinch the American East Division title and become the final team to qualify for the Midwest Baseball League postseason.
The Bears sit at 91-70 giving them a 1.5-game lead over second-place Toledo with the regular season at an end.
Columbus will face AL West Division champion Fort Wayne in the American League championship series.
The Mad Men, who own an MBL-best record of 100-62, will have home-field advantage.
The division title is the eighth for the Bears, their most recent coming in 2032.
Columbus has reached the World Series four times, winning the title in 2019 and 2029.
