Walkers news: May 28 -- Cedar Rapids 7, St. Louis 3
Record: 22-28, 7th, 8 GB Cedar Rapids
Tied 3-3, Cedar Rapids scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings and the Grapplers went on to defeat St. Louis 7-3 at Busch Stadium (2006).
Cedar Rapids put up three runs on St. Louis rookie starter Billy Hermann over the first two innings to go up 3-0.
But the River Walkers tallied once in the bottom of the second and twice in the third on a Manuel Coke homer off Grapplers starter Edwin Rivera to tie it.
However Hermann's rough outing continued into the fourth as Miguel Mato open the top of the fourth inning with a single, stole second and scored on a Jose Morillo single.
A walk to Eric Gerhardt then put runners on first and second.
Hermann retired the next two but could not get out of the inning without a run scoring as Santos Villanueva made it 4-2 with an RBI single.
An inning later, Alex Rios made his 2039 debut at the major-league level.
When the inning was over, he had surrendered a pair of runs on a two-run homer by Miguel Mena
Rivera went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out eight and didn't issue a walk.
Dave Vacarri, Antonio Echevaria and Hector Miro all pitched scoreless innings of relief.
