I tried something similar. Seven RPs. I made the change mid season.

I let the manager set the bullpen then altered the settings but not the order of the players. I set two as closers 8th or later with a secondary high leverage role. I set two as setup with secondary role as closers.

Nothing terrible happened. I didn't look at every box score but found one where my top closer came into the game in the sixth to get two outs in a high leverage situation. That's what I wanted to see.

The idea of not saving a closer for a late critical situation that may never come possibly isn't good one. I'm reminded of "never save a pitcher for tomorrow, tomorrow it may rain."
