Sandberg was traded after the 1981 season to the Cubs. He briefly played for Philadelphia in September 1981 before getting traded in the offseason.
To be fair, Ivan DeJesus was a very good shortstop especially with defense. Back then, shortstops were more valued for their gloves than bats and DeJesus had speed, too. He was also 10 years younger than Larry Bowa. Bowa was unhappy in Philadelphia and demanded a trade. If you look at it from Philly's perspective, they did get to the World Series in 1983 just a year later. However, Sandberg the "throw-in" of the deal turned out to be a HOFer.
