Today is Opening Day.

The Orphans begin their season with an 8-game road trip that starts with a 4-game series in St Louis against the Cardinals.

The Orphans signed free agents 1B Hal O'Hagan to a minor league contract.

Reports are circulating that the Detroit Tigers are negotiating with free agent RP Pop Williams.

In the bottom of the second, Krueger scored from third when Raymer booted a two-out grounder by Powell. Donovan followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. The Cardinals went on to load the bases with two out on the Orphans third error of the inning. Burkett brought in two with a single.

In the bottom of the third, an RBI double by Krueger made it 5-0.

After three: St Louis 5 Chicago 0.

In the top of the fourth, McCormick brought home a run with a two-out RBI single .

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals scored two on a Powell three-bagger with two out. Donovan knocked in Powell with an infield single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jack W Taylor took the mound for the Orphans.

After six: St Louis 8 Chicago 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, McGann got a two-out 2-RBI double.

With two out in the bottom of the eighth, rain began to fall, stopped and then resumed.

The Cardinals outhit the Orphans 10-4 to get the win while the two teams combined for 10 errors.

Final score: St Louis 10 Chicago 1.
