
Game 137: Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers
August Recap
Coming off a July that saw the team go 12-12, an August record of 17-11 (overall 76-60; 559%) has many a Boston fan excited for the renewed possibility of playoff baseball. The team continues to get solid front-line pitching, and the bats have stayed largely active (lead the American League with a .255 team batting average).
As for individual performance, Kutter Crawford (3-0, 3.89 ERA. 1.0 WAR), Tanner Houck (3-0, 3.89 ERA, 1.2 WAR), and Logan Gilbert (3-1, 2.88 ERA, 0.6 WAR) provided quality starts to keep the team in the game, while Liam Hendriks recorded 10 saves but did experience his share of struggles (0-1, 5.65 ERA). At the plate, Kyle Teel (1.4 WAR), Marcelo Mayer (.324/.378/.480, 0.9 WAR), and Ceddanne Rafaela (0.8 WAR) made solid contributions.
