Playing again

Like the title says, I am running through ITP. Just made a relief pitcher trying for the coveted closer role. kept endurance to a minimum and am not doing any endurance training.

Highschooler, was a 4 star prospect. In the pros by 21. (ugh, the "made you the closer" thing is rediculous, as well as the promotion/demotion after the minors season is over)

While I may have been traded from the worst team in the AL (cleveland) to the worst team in the majors (arizona), AZ made me their closer. Last time i tried a closer I did not get the role until I was much older, so hopefully I can hold onto it.

Interesting, I don't recall going over 100 before (maybe I just forget), but I got my velocity to (110). Prior to starting my 5th overall season (2007), I have already maxed my stats (80 stf, 80 ctrl, 110 vel, 10 poise). Yeah no poise for a closer, but whatever.

Going off a slight variation of the pitchers workout (to avoid endurance), was 1.59 when they said 1.6, at 1.52 when they say 1.5.

Off to my first full year as a closer...

Halfway through 2007 I am at 15 saves. 9th best in the NL. More importantly, AZ is over .500 and only 3 games behind. A far cry from last season when we finished with over 100 losses.

End has creeped up to 11. Last time I looked at it, it was at 9, I think at the end of last season?

At the start of 2008, which will be my 3rd full season in the bigs, I am sitting on 100/100 stuff, 89/90 control, 107/110 velocity and 10/10 poise.

Looks like I went from a 4 blue star prospect to a 4.5 gold star major leaguer.

Opening day closer for AZ. Our niddle relivers are mediocre at best as a corp. The starters aren't any better. Offensively we are looking pretty good. Could use a little more speed. But the pitching needs an upgrade. I hope the GM is listening

Here we go...

22 May. Got a stiff shoulder, listed day to day. 1 wk to recover.

Curently 2nd w/ 11 saves, and AZ making a surprise early run. 1st place, but it is tight.

Hit the all-star break. Left off the ballots, had several rough appearances after coming back from the injury, shooting my era to just over 3 (From 1.7 before the injury).

AZ is in 2nd, .5 behind LA

////
going into sept, we fell off a bit. 3 games behind LA and the 2nd half surprise, SD. I am sitting on 22 saves. Seemingly have not really gotten back to form after the shoulder thing. ERA still hovering around 3. Heading into the home stretch...

Ugh, seeing a pattern emerge. Fell off again. Finished 4 games over .500, but fell to 4th in the division, 7 games behind. Tough group here in the NL west, south, whatever.
Sept/Oct was good for me. I didn't cave under the pressure. 8 games, 0 ER. ERA dropped to finish at 2.67, but only finished w/ 22 saves.

Offense for AR dropped severly, but the pitching was very good. We were 1st in runs allowed, but 23d in runs scored.

BTW, my rookie card is 21.85.

Moving on...

Ok, starting 2009. Contract expires at the end of the year. No talent boosts, so sitting on 100/90/110/10 still.

Endurance is up to 13 now without any training.

And we are in the NL West.

And we're off.

Ouch, first couple weeks were rough. 7 IP, 8 ER, 2 K's, 0 saves. But closed the month out with 5 consecutive saves with 0 ER.

So on the side here, itp has crashed quite a bit. A lot when I was in the minors, nto as much while in the majors. Way more than I recall it happening before, maybe it is the new OS. But anyhow, after the crash it retains the date, but no stats since the last save point. I was saving monthly because the crashes - exiting to the main menu then reloading career.

So after the rough start in April, I was cruising along through May and into June. It crashed on 8 June. I had to restart and it is still 8 June when i got back, but the stats say I have not pitched since 29 April. I was 3rd in saves. Guess I'll go back to simming a month at a time and saving.

23 June - Bruised Hand, day to day. I noticed all the stats for everyone were erased for that time period of may/early June. My current 10 saves is 3 off the league lead.

irritating season with the crash and the injury. Finished w/ 23 saves, 3.7 ERA. I felt I was ready for a breakout, but after the crash in May, everything went south.

The team finished 5 games over .500 and 11 games behind San Fran. The hitting picked up to be middle of the road, and the pitching fell off to middle of the road.

Ready to move on and put this season behind me.

Misunderstood the contract, NOW I have 1 year left. They will now negotiate with me, I am an all-star calibre player. I was getting 3.3M, I asked for 1 year and 12M. They laughed at me... I originally was thinking 8 years at 10 M a year, but am not sure i want to stay with a mediocre team like this, so made a knowingly rediculous request.

Anyhow, we lost our best starter. We have 1 starting pitcher that had more that 7 wins last year (11). The 11 game winner had decent stats though, so he must have had bad luck with his team offense when he pitched. Sadly I just looked up he played for us last year.

We did add several top HR/RBI men, without losing our own all-star outfielder and catcher. Pretty excited to see what we can do offensively. maybe pick up this pitching...

So AR is relevant this year. Clinched our division w/ 4 games to go. The offense came through, we were #1 or 2 in HR, AVG, runs scored, and 6th in walks. Still had no speed though. Pitching hung on to be middle of the road again. We had 4 10+ game winners and 1 19 game winner (2nd in league).

My closer was mediocre until Aug and Set, where he had 14 saves while posting a 1 ERA. Arizona did not even want to resign me for what I was making this season. Going to try free agency. But I'll likely re-sign w/ Arizona. They did put me in the closer role early and have put together a decent team.

But on to the playoffs first...

Facing our divisional rival in the first round, San Fran.

Game 1, no action for me, but we get the victory!
Game 2, again no action, and we take the loss.
Game 3, I got in for 2IP, gave up 2H, 0ER/0R, and 2K's - No decision and we lose.
Game 4, no action, we win. Series 2-2, rubber match coming up!

Game 5, did not get in, we lose.

SF goes on to play St Louis. Wins the series 4-1. They advanced to the WS to play Anaheim, and win 4-3.

Hit free agency. Had no offers day 1. I called Arizona, they offered 5.2M and 2 years. waited a day, got around 10 more offers, but I went with Arizona. Most of the new talent was through 2012, So I figured I'd go the same.

17 June, control gets boosted to (100).

at the all-start berak 2011, have 16 saves and a 2.97 era and somehow made the all-star team. not even top 3 in saves, and in fact I am 3rd in blown saves. Not sure how I made it.

And AZ is 49-32, 1 game behind SF.

Finished w/ 98 wins, same as lat year. Good enough to tkae the division by 5 games. In a strange twist, I did not get in any games between 10 Sept and 5 October.

Finished w/ 27 saves. The offense came through again this year, and the pitchign stepped it up too.

We have St Louis in the 1st round...

Ugh, down 0-2. I gave up 3 to lose game 2. My first outing in a month, I was tight...

Lost the 1st round series 3-1. Our 1 win was a 12-0 romp.

Was on the road, but back at it...
Next season ARI posted a league leading 106 wins. We swept thefirst round vs montreal, andthe second round vs st louis. My closer had no action in the first round, but had 3 saves in round two.

In WS against Anaheim. Split the first two, had a save in the second game. Didnt make another appearance, but we finally won the WS 4 games to 2. Party at fiddlers.

Had a career high 35 saves, but nothing else to write home about. Resigned with arizona for 2 years.

End is up to 23
