Newer free OOTP

Any chance of one of the newer OOTP Baseball sims being released like what was done with OOTP 8/2007?

It is doubtful it will happen anytime soon. OOTP 8 isn't even that old and is still a great game.

Just curious: is OOTP 8 still free (or any other earlier versions)? And where would one find those files? Interested in giving some earlier versions a look.

Thanks!

Yes, OOTP 8 is still free.

You can download the files from here:

Index of /ootp , specifically the OOTP8FreeSetup.exe.

Keep in mind that 8 is the only free version, the others will be in demo mode, which runs for a limited time.

I'd like version 1 to be made open source, but the chances of that are negligible lol.

On topic, I would imagine version 9 will be made free eventually, when is anyone's guess though.

Many thanks!

For some reason, that file doesn't seem to download. Others (ootp8free.dmg, ootp8demosetup.exe, ootp8setup.exe) do. Are any of those equivalent? Is ootp8setup.exe the same thing? Sorry if I'm being obtuse...

I always thought OOTP X should be free here in the near future. With the new pitching model debuted in that one it is a decent resemblence of the current game but 11,12 and soon 13 all brought us enough goodies where it should make people want to upgrade.

AFAIK, 8 and 5 are the only free versions.

I'd love to see 6 and 6.5 move to the free realm if it's no longer generating (much) revenue.

Try ootp8setup.exe. Not sure why the OOTP8freesetup.exe doesn't work for you, I didn't have a problem downloading it. If you're on a Mac, you'll need the .dmg file, not the .exe one.

Ah, thanks for checking that. Since you said the file worked for you, I tried some things and then wound up being able to download it using a different browser.

Many thanks! It'll be fun to compare different versions...

Yeah, I think X will probably be the next free one thinking about it.

Just because I'm curious as I have them all starting with OOTP 2007, Why not OOTP 9 before X?

I would just say 10 because that was first year with individual pitches, which were a real game changer. It just would seem to resemble these newer versions better. Although not so closely where if you liked it you wouldn't want to upgrade.

Although who knows maybe it will be only v8 forever. It's not like they've been giving a different version away free each year. I like seeing Markus and Co. make $$$$

As has been said, there were a few additions to 10 that make it different enough to 8 so as to make it more inviting, but still different enough from the current version so as not to stop people buying that.

I can say personally that the free ootp8 on the net was one of the smartest moves this company has made

I would have never thought of trying or eventually buying this game without a few months to give that a test run- find it just a great game, but missing a few details and tweeks that got addressed in future versions

what they lose from a few people just playing for free might still be made up in word of mouth. The one guy never upgrades and buys anything, but tells a friend or gives a run and buys an ootp 12 or 13 or whatnot

Really brilliant marketing move.
The crew should be applauded

Do you really think there are a lot of consumers out there who are going to actually be spending money to buy versions of a game that are three to five years old??

Well, apparently some people were still buying 6.5 as late as a couple of years ago.

Yes because some online leagues use those versions.

Especially 6.5 apparently, which is why that will never be free unless a future version becomes seen as better than it (which is unlikely due to the "Nostalgia Filter"...)
