Real Transactions

I've always wanted to do an extended replay using real transactions. The main thing that stops me from doing so is, I've never been able to come up with a solution for injuries combined with very limited rosters. I'm scared that even the "low" setting could leave teams extremely pressed to field a team with players playing positions that they are rated to play.

I like injuries for the sake of forcing me as a manager to play less desirable players. This especially holds true for pitchers. But, lots of times with real transactions on, a team might only have 3 total catchers. 2 get hurt and what do you do. Maybe the solution is to turn off player fatigue and go with the low injury setting?

Just wondered if any of you have any suggestions. Thanks.

Still say the game needs another injury setting that limits the duration an injury can last. I don't need the injury file to be rewritten. I know I can edit the injury file, but I hate messing with my game. I also play lots of different ways. So editing would work, but would be a huge pain when I want to play another way.

Position player injuries make real transactions unrealistic for anything more than your day to day bumps and bruises. In real life, players who go on the DL are replaced. I don't see any way to duplicate the day to day stuff without turning injuries on, and you'd have to just wipe out the ones over 2 weeks, as those are already accounted for by real transactions. I suppose there's a way to edit the injury file, but that's beyond my capabilities.

In addition to using an injury file like the one Spritze posted (that has no CEI's), I also use the historical transactions file from OOTP v 12. This is because I like to play historical with both Retire According to History and Miss Seasons According to History off. Unfortunately, beginning with v 13, for those scrubs & others who in reality probably didn't retire but finished out their careers in the minors, they are forced to retire as per the v 13 (& beyond) historical txns files. I don't dig this at all, as it essentially makes the Retire According to History feature useless.

At any rate, by doing the above - and by starting my sim several years before I actually want to start playing (for example, if I want to start with the 1970's Dodgers, I'll start the sim in the early 60's and let it run up until 1970, then jump in) - I end up with a fully-stocked reserve roster of real players.

For further info on the historical transaction issue (which I don't know if it has been fixed in v17), and other related, see these threads/posts:

The explanation above is why I was against "retiring" those minor leaguers in the transaction file and left it out when I created the file for v12. I just feel it took away options.

Basically, we weren't sure how it was going to work when we made decisions and when we got more data for v13, the decision was made to close every possible hole in the file, retiring those guys when they stopped playing the majors was one of those things. I argued that it was covered by "retire according to history"

The only time I included was when a player officially announced a retirement. Now that we have minor league imports, there is absolutely no reason for it.

It absolutely does. It makes the RAH meaningless, or pretty close to it.

Thanks for the background. Please argue against this again for OOTP 18.

None whatsoever.
