Statcast in ootp

One Way to Use Statcast as the Future of Evaluating Hitters | FanGraphs Baseball

An interesting article that makes an obvious point. Some singles are far more valuable than others. Which makes me wonder, is the new statcast data ever going to find its way into ootp? Is it relevant? How can the sim model reflect this?

We're always looking to incorporate new things into the game. I would *love* to be able to incorporate more of this stuff into the game, not just for 3D to get more accurate hits, but also as a driving force when measuring player aging, to evaluate prospects, to get a better view overall of player talents and abilities, and for everything in the game.

But sadly, I don't have unlimited time on my hands, and we have to be careful that going too far would turn things into an arcade game where Stanton hits 200 home runs in a season. So I think we're still a ways away from truly incorporating this all.

About long singles: they are a bit lacking in the game IMO.

I'd like to see 2 play-by-play-scenarios which result in long singles:

1: Hard line drive to deep LF/RF, off the wall. Runner to 1st, Speed check - if passed runner to second.
If not, Baserunning instincts check - if passed, 50% runner to 2nd, 50% runner stays at first
If failed - 50% runner stays at first, 50% runner tries for second, outfielder arm check, if passed - out.

2: Runners at 1st, 1st and 2nd or bases loaded, long fly ball to the outfield, runners hold - only a single. Runner from 2nd scores, yet runner from first only makes it to second.

once there is enough data it's going to make these types of games more accurate.... can't wait.

yeah the new data from statcast is very exciting! I LOVE how MLB the show has hit speed now. If only OOTPD had the resources of Sony...

MLB The Show is a completly different game genre than OOTP. It's like comparing in football FIFA or PES with a manager game.
I'd see statcast-like stats in OOTP as a nice bonus, yet quite down on the list of features that should be included.

lol obviously. i wasn't comparing the two They both satisfy different itches. I was merely dreaming about the possibilities if OOTPD had the resources of a company like Sony
